Contact The Sun. Seriously, they'll pay you £500 for that story, maybe more.

Re: Kitchens
There is a few nice dealers in Essex, there is one just about to open in Loughton called Arttex.

They do Dutch kitchens which are brilliant and they will undercut any of the old shit that Howdens etc etc try to sell.

Re: Kitchens
Howdens etc sell the kitchen to the builder (trade only company) and its up to the builder /fitter what he sells it for. There is nothing illegal in doing it unless you don’t pay tax on the profit.

Twoleftfeet, any specific recommendations in the Essex area

Re: Kitchens
Never buy a kitchen from the following -

Howdens
Wren
Magnet
B & Q

All massively overpriced, carcasses that are made of cheap material with very thin back boards. The doors will delaminate quickly and the finish is atrocious.

Always buy a kitchen from an independent, they are as cheap as any of the above but the choice, the design and the service are far greater.

Trust me I know having been in the game for over 20 years.

Re: Kitchens
thought when I opened this it was gonna say you took your kitchen to the Brighton game and lost it and all someone did was make a cup of tea with it.

I reckon Magnets will STICK to their offer, though.

Re: Kitchens
Kwikfit and tyres are different though Bertie.

Kwitfit are providing a service, and are offering me someone else’s tyres at a certain price, and I’m sure they lump 30% on themselves.

If I was hiring a builder to negotiate on my behalf, and he sticks 10% into Magnets price, that’s up to him. But for Magnet to phone him up and specifically ask him if he wants to con me, is really bad

They've mugged you right off, Andrew.

Fillet the cunts.

Re: Kitchens
Bottom line is how much you pay and how good the job is. In such a competative world everyone thinks they can geta bargain but the best deal is the one you feel happy with.

Re: Kitchens
I think it happens everywhere to be honest. In all fields, I can’t imagine kwikfit are only charging a markup on the labour of the new tyre they are fitting to your car. They presumably make on the tyre too.

Re: Kitchens
I just think it’s completely immoral. Trading standard would be all over this, with the whole ‘treating customers fairly’ focus

Re: Kitchens
Just going through the process with howdens.
They do the measure and send the discounted quote to the builder. He was upfront and said that he usually adds 10% to it, his reasoning is that his quote is nearly 70% below list price (but no one ever pays list price)

Must admit I thought it was a bit off, but the overall price is reasonable. My uncle has a company so might ask him to set an account up and see what price he gets given.

Re: Kitchens
If you wanted to be a nark, you could grass them up to Trading Standards.

Either that or curl a shit out into one of their display kitchen drawers.
